WHAT OUR GUESTS ARE SAYING

GREAT PASTA COOKING CLASS
Learned the details behind making Bologna pasta - Tortelloni, Tortellini and Tagliatelle. Ate what we prepared with some very nice sparkling wine.
Highly recommend this hidden away classic

I LOVED THE CLASS
I loved the class. I had made pasta before but David gave me more information to help me become a better cook.

IT WAS SUPERB
Learned how to make legit tortellini, tortelloni and tagliatelle al ragu. I previously took another pasta making class in Rome that was well reviewed and it was so much more touristy than this.
There's no machines or things to make the process easier, as authentic as it gets. I highly recommend it.

DELICIOUS FOOD AND LOTS OF FUN!
My family and I did the private cooking class in Bologna and absolutely loved it. My mother is celiac and Taste Bologna was able to coordinate a gluten-free pasta making class for the four of us and a chef.
We made our own gluten-free pasta and used it in three dishes (all delicious): lasagna, tortelloni with sage butter, and pasta with ragu. Would highly recommend - it was a lot of fun and we loved learning to make authentic italian food (that even celiacs can eat!).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General Class Information

Where does the cooking class take place?
Our cooking school is located right in the historic center of Bologna, within easy walking distance of Piazza Maggiore. You’ll receive the exact address and easy directions in your confirmation email.
Is the class hands-on or just a demonstration?
This is a 100% hands-on experience. No watching from the sidelines! You’ll get your hands messy and learn the authentic "sfoglia" (pasta dough) technique. Our approach is direct, practical, and focused on giving you real skills to take home.
What is the menu for the class?
For our group classes, the menu is a tribute to the "Holy Trinity" of Bologna’s pasta: Tortellini, Tortelloni, and Tagliatelle. If you’d prefer a different menu (such as two types of pasta and a dessert), please contact us to book a private class.
Do we get to eat what we make?
Absolutely! The best part comes at the end. After all that hard work, you’ll sit down to enjoy the dishes you prepared, accompanied by a well-deserved glass of local wine.

Dietary Requirements

Can you accommodate vegetarians, vegans, or celiacs?
Vegetarians are welcome in our group classes; we can easily adapt the fillings (2 types of pasta instead of 3). For Vegans and Celiacs, we can only accommodate you in a private class to ensure proper ingredients and avoid cross-contamination. Please contact us for a quote.
What if I have a severe nut or dairy allergy?
Please specify any allergies in the "Notes" section during booking. While we take every precaution, please be aware that we work in a flour-rich environment where dairy is frequently used.

Experience & Gear

I’ve never cooked before; is this class for me?
Definitely! Our classes are designed for all skill levels, from total beginners to home cooks looking to master the art of the rolling pin. Our instructors will guide you through every fold and cut.
What should I bring? Do I need an apron?
Just your appetite and a love for food! We provide individual workstations for every participant, fully equipped with a wooden pasta board, rolling pin, apron, and all fresh ingredients.
Will I receive the recipes afterward?
Yes! We won't leave you to remember everything by heart. We will send the full recipes via email after the class so you can recreate the magic of Bologna in your own kitchen.

Logistics & Booking

How long is the class and what is the group size?
The experience lasts approximately 3 hours. We keep our groups intimate with a maximum of 12 people. If you are looking to book for a larger group or a corporate event, please contact us for a private arrangement.
Do you accept solo travelers?
Absolutely! Our cooking classes are a great way for solo travelers to meet like-minded food lovers from all over the world. Please note that all our classes require a minimum of 2 participants to run. If you are booking alone and the minimum isn’t met for that specific date, we will contact you in advance to offer an alternative activity, a different date, or a full refund.
Are children allowed?
Yes! We love hosting families. Children will work at a station next to their parents. For safety reasons, children are not permitted to use sharp knives, but they can certainly master the art of folding tortellini!
What language is the class conducted in?
The class is held in English. The instructions are clear and visual, making it easy for everyone to follow along.
Do I need to print my booking confirmation?
No need to waste paper! You don’t need to print anything. Your email confirmation on your smartphone is perfect. Your chef will have a digital guest list with your name on it, so you just need to show up and introduce yourself.
What should I do if I’m running late for the class?
To respect the experience for all participants, the class starts at the official meeting time. If you are running late, please contact us immediately via email, phone, or WhatsApp. We’ll do our best to accommodate you, but late arrivals may miss part of the introduction or hands-on activity.

Payment & Safety

How do I book and pay?
You can book directly through our website using any major credit card. Like our tours, we do not accept cash.
Should I tip the instructor?
Tipping is never required, but if you had a fantastic time and learned a skill you'll use for life, a tip is a wonderful way to thank your "Sfoglina" or instructor.
